Prior to those last two innings, the Shoes dominated. Sam Bushur was 5-for-5 at the plate, while Kayden Althoff, Logan Roepke, Cade Buehnerkemper and Brayden Gaddis each had two hits. Kayden Althoff had three RBI, while Derek Konkel, Roepke and Gaddis each drove home two.
Dylan Pruemer took the loss for THS, while Logan Fleener, the fifth North Clay hurler, got the win after pitching a scoreless seventh.
In the first game of the day, the Shoes broke out to an early lead and were never threatened. They scored four runs in the first inning and rolled to a 12-0, five-inning decision over Dieterich.
Cade Buehnerkemeper had quite a game. He threw a two-hit shutout and also drove in four runs, leading the Shoes to their first win of the season.
The righthander gave up a lead-off double by Braden Shadle in the third and a two-out single by Austin Ruholl in the fourth. Buehnerkemper didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven, while throwing 62 pitches in five innings of work.
He also had a key hit in the opening inning that staked the Shoes to a quick four-run lead.
Kayden Althoff singled, Derek Konkel was hit by a pitch and Logan Roepke walked to load the bases with two outs. An error let the first run score and Buehnerkemper then lined a double that cleared the bases and gave THS a 4-0 lead.
The Shoes scored a single tally in the second and then broke the game open with a seven-run fifth. They had five hits and a hit batter, plus scored two runs in wild pitches. Mitch Althoff had a two-run triple, Roepke drove in another with a double and Buehnerkemper and Caleb Siemer added RBI singles.
T-Town is now 1-3 on the season. The Shoes will play a doubleheader at home today (Monday) against Altamont.
