Breese Mater Dei outscored Teutopolis 22-12 in the middle two quarters Friday night, en route to a 50-46 victory at home.

The Shoes scored 16 points in the first quarter and 18 more in the final eight minutes, but managed to score only a dozen points in the middle two periods.

Dalton Markus knocked down three shots from behind the arc and scored 13 points in the opening quarter for the Knights, but the Shoes got scoring from six different players and trailed only 19-16.

But as the scoring fell off the next 16 minutes, the deficit widened. At halftime, Mater Dei was on top 30-20 and the margin extended to 13 points, 41-28, after three quarters.

The Shoes battled back in the final period. James Niebrugge scored 11 points, as THS got within two. Ttown outscored the Knights 18-9, but ended with the loss.

Markus had 18 points and Drake Wagner added 14 for Mater Dei, who improved to 11-11 on the season.

Niebrugge was the Shoes only player in double figures, finishing with 18 points.

THS dipped to 16-6 on the season. The Shoes will play again today (Saturday). They are participating in the Panther Basketball Showcase and will face the host Pinckneyville team at 7:30 p.m.
