The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes went on a 21-5 second-quarter run Saturday afternoon to pull away and post a 58-34 victory over New Berlin in the Taylorville Shootout.

The Shoes held a slim 12-10 lead after the opening quarter, but then used the big second period to build a 33-15 halftime advantage. T-Town continued to widen the gap in the third quarter, taking a 46-23 lead into the final eight minutes.

Drew Hoene and Mick Niebrugge accounted for a bulk of the team’s scoring, combining for 40 points. Hoene led the way with 23, while Niebrugge added 17.

Hoene was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the game.

The Shoes improved to 11-4 on the season. They will travel to St. Joe-Ogden for a game on Tuesday.
