For one quarter, the Teutopolis Lady Shoes were in the game.
Then Breese Central proved it’s the state’s No. 1 ranked team in Class 2A.
The Lady Cougars outscored T-Town 38-11 in the middle two quarters Saturday, en route to a 57-30 victory on their home floor.
Chloe Probst and Kelsey Niemerg both scored five points in the opening eight minutes, helping the Lady Shoes take a 12-10 lead.
But Breese Central began to take control after that. The Lady Cougars went on a 22-7 run in the second period and followed that up with a 16-4 scoring edge in the third quarter. Heading into the final eight minutes, the hosts held a commanding 48-23 advantage.
Taylor Trame scored 15 points and Lily Butler added 10 for the Lady Cougars, who notched their third straight win, 11th in 12 games, and improved to 23-2 overall.
Niemerg paced T-Town with nine points, while Chloe Probst and Mollie Ruholl both scored eight.
The Lady Shoes are now 19-7. They will return home Monday and welcome Breese Mater Dei. The “other” Breese team is pretty good, too. The Lady Knights are 18-9, but have dropped their last three games.
