The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are now just two wins away from that coveted 2,000-win plateau.
They notched the boys basketball program’s 1,998th victory Tuesday night with a 46-39 decision at home over Newton.
But it didn’t come easy.
The Eagles held a 19-17 lead at halftime. The Shoes regained the lead by outscoring Newton 11-7 in the third quarter and then secured the victory down the stretch.
Gavin Addis led all scorers with 16 points. Drew Hoene was also in double figures, finishing with 10.
The Shoes are now 16-8 for the season. They will return to action Friday night at home against St. Anthony. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 2 in Class 1A and will enter the game with a 22-2 record and riding a 20-game winning streak.
