Courtney Gibson turned in five strong innings of work and Lexie Niebrugge drove in three runs, helping the Teutopolis Lady Shoes post a 7-3 win Friday afternoon at home against Salt Fork.
After the guests scored two runs in the opening inning, the Lady Shoes responded immediately. Erin Althoff and Emily Konkel both walked and Lexie Niebrugge then ripped a triple to drive in both runners. Tia Probst followed with a run-scoring single and Kaylee Niebrugge capped the four-run frame with an RBI single.
T-Town tacked on single tallies in the second, third and fourth innings.
In the second, Danielle Sarchet led off with a triple and scored on a base hit by Althoff. In the third, Probst reached on an error and scored on a two-out double by Gibson. In the fourth, Althoff reached on an error, stole a base and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Lexie Niebrugge.
Gibson pitched the first five innings to get the win. She allowed five hits and three runs, while walking two and striking out five. Probst pitched the final two innings to earn the save. She didn’t allow a hit, walked one and struck out three.
The Lady Shoes improved to 8-4 on the season. They will return to action today (Saturday), playing at home against Mt. Zion in an Apollo Conference game. THS is 1-1 in league play.
