The Teutopolis Lady Shoes sprayed hits all over the ball park Saturday.

They banged out 31 hits and scored 27 runs en route to a doubleheader sweep at Taylorville.

T-Town took the opener 14-1 and then completed the sweep with a 13-3 decision in the nightcap.

The Lady Shoes took control early, scoring five times on six hits in the first inning of the first game. Lexie Niebrugge, who had six hits and five RBI in the two games, had an RBI single, as did Daischa Piedra and Kaylee Niebrugge. Courtney Gibson capped the inning with a two-run double.

THS added two runs in the second, four more in the third and tacked on their final three in the fifth.

That was more than enough for Tia Probst, who allowed just two hits and a single run in five innings of work. She walked two and struck out nine.

It was a 2-2 tie when the Lady Shoes pushed five runs across the plate in the third inning of the second game. Piedra had an RBI single, as did Estella Mette, who also drove in five runs in the twin-bill. The third run scored on a bases-loaded walk and Erin Althoff brought home the final two with a two-run single.

T-Town then added a pair of runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to complete the scoring.

Gibson went the first three innings to get the win. She allowed six hits and three runs, while walking one and striking out two. Jordan Goeckner pitched the final three innings of shutout softball. She didn’t allow a hit, walked three and struck out two.

The Lady Shoes improved to 12-7 overall and 2-3 in the Apollo Conference. They will return home Tuesday to play Mattoon in another conference contest.
