St. Anthony girls win invitational
The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs turned in a solid team effort Thursday to capture first place in the five-team St. Anthony Invitation, played at Fore Way Golf Course.
The Lady Bulldogs finished with 159 total strokes, followed by Effingham at 179, St. Thomas More 186, Charleston 189 and Teutopolis 196.
Macy Ludwig led St. Anthony with a 37, followed by Morgan Schuette with a 38, Ellie Wegman 40 and Reagan Westendorf 44. Nina Hakman (46) also competed.
Effingham’s Ava Boehm was the medalist, turning in a 3-under par 33 over the nine holes. Also for the Lady Hearts, Anna Sigg shot 43, Ella Niebrugge 48 and Annie Frost 55 to round out the team score. Marah Kirk (57) and Anna Hirtzel (57) also played.
Averie Bushue turned in the top round for T-Town, firing a 39. Mollie Koester finished with 51, Lexie Niebrugge 52 and Alaina Helmink 54 to complete the team score. Abigail Wortman (56) and Josie Deters (64) also competed.
Wooden Shoes fall to Casey-Westfield
One stroke is all that separated Teutopolis and Casey-Westfield Thursday afternoon.
The Warriors, however, came away with a 182-183 victory over Teutopolis in a match played at Effingham Country Club.
For T-Town, Andy Niebrugge led the team with a 43. Gabe Schlink shot 44, Hayden Jansen 47 and Ethan Thoele 49 to complete the team score. Jack Poelker (52) and Bennett Thompson (54) also competed.
CROSS COUNTRY
Teutopolis, Effingham compete in triangular
The Effingham boys and Teutopolis girls emerged winners from triangular cross country meets Thursday afternoon.
The Hearts topped the boys field, finishing with 25 team points. T-Town was second with 36 points and Dieterich third with 61.
In the girls race, the Lady Shoes were first with 26 points, followed by Effingham with 51 and Dieterich 53.
Effingham’s Andrew Donaldson and Tucker Moeller finished first and second, respectively, with times of 15:43 and 16:30. Also for the Hearts, Garrett Wagoner was fourth in 16:34; Jon Perry sixth in 16:52; and John Westendorf 12th in 17:45.
For the Shoes, Matthew Deters led the way with a 3rd place finish and a time of 16:31. Cole Probst was 5th in 16:38; Brody Mette 8th in 17:20; Gavin Tegeler 9th in 17:29; and Ben Kitten 11th in 17:40
T-Town’s Jessica Runde was the winner of the girls race, finishing with a time of 18:49. Also for the Lady Shoes, Olivia Copple was 3rd in 19:32; Kaitlyn Vahling 5th in 20:04; Kaitlyn Schumacher 6th in 20:18; and Taylor Bueker 11th in 21:37.
Kiley Weaver led EHS with a second place finish and a time of 19:19; Also for the Lady Hearts, Nikki Schneiderjon was 4th in 19:54; Daelyn Dunston 10th in 20:58; Gracie Eaton 18th in 25:59; and Olivia Raddatz 19th in 28:45.
