Abbi Hatton lined a pitch into rightfield and then circled the bases for an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday, lifting the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Windsor/Stew-Stras.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 3-0 when they came to bat in the bottom of the seventh. WSS’s Karlie Bean had thrown a four-hit shutout up to that point. Anna Faber started the rally with a lead-off double, followed by walks to Hatton and Grace Karolewicz to load the bases. Addie Wernsing brought in the first run with a sacrifice fly and Hailey Niebrugge tied it up with a clutch two-out, two-run triple.
After the Lady Hatchets were retired in the top of the eighth, Bean got the first two outs in the bottom of the inning. But Hatton then connected on a 1-1 pitch and turned it into the game-winning walk-off homer.
Lucy Fearday pitched all eight innings to get the win. She allowed five hits and three runs, all scoring in the third inning. Fearday walked one and struck out five.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 13-3 on the season. They will return to action today (Friday) at Nokomis.
