Mitch Koester got a week’s worth of hits.
And it took just seven innings.
Koester went 5-for-5 at the plate, drove in three runs and scored four times, leading the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes to a 13-5 victory Thursday at Mattoon.
Koester singled in the first and third, smacked a double in the fifth, added an RBI single in the sixth and capped his day with a two-run double in the five-run seventh that broke the game open.
T-Town and Mattoon were tied 4-4 after four innings. The Shoes then went on top to stay with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Koester led things off with a double. With one out, Joey Niebrugge delivered a run-scoring double and then scored when Brett Kreke added an RBI single.
THS added two more runs in the sixth and then combined two hits, two walks and two Mattoon errors to push five more runs across in the seventh.
Garrett Gaddis went the first four innings to get the win. He allowed eight hits and four runs, while walking two and striking out four. Andrew Probst and Joey Niebrugge took care of the final three innings.
The Shoes, now 15-8, will be back in action today (Friday), playing at home against Marshall. They will then travel to Pleasant Plains on Saturday.
