The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes left a lot of runners stranded on base Tuesday afternoon, but they still managed to score enough, posting a 4-1 win at North Clay.
T-Town collected 12 hits and three walks in the game, and had runners on base in every inning but one, but only pushed four of them across the plate. They stranded 12.
For pitchers Garrett Gaddis and Evan Waldhoff, that proved to be enough. Gaddis got the win, going the first four innings. He gave up four hits and one run. He walked only one and struck out three. Waldhoff took care of the final three innings to earn the save. He allowed three hits and fanned one.
The Shoes scored a single tally in four different innings. In the first and third innings, everything started after the first two batters had been retired.
In the first, Mick Niebrugge singled, went to second on an error and scored on a base hit by Waldhoff. It was Austin Borries who got it started in the third with the first of three straight singles. Devin Kreke followed suit and Zac Niebrugge’s hit drove in the run to put THS on top to stay, 2-1.
T-Town added unearned runs in the sixth and seventh, with Devin Kreke delivering an RBI single in the seventh.
The Shoes improved to 17-8. They will return to action Friday and Saturday, playing in the Edwardsville Classic.
