Cade Buehnerkemper drove in the tying run in the seventh and Dylan Pruemer came through with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to give the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes the walk-off 5-4 victory over North Clay at home Thursday.
The previously unbeaten Cardinals held a 4-2 lead going to the bottom of the seventh. And after retiring the first two T-Town hitters, they were just one out from a win.
But Pruemer got the rally started with a base hit. Two of North Clay’s four errors helped one run to score and Buehnerkemper then delivered a two-out single that tied the score.
Then in the eighth, Kayden Althoff ripped a one-out double. A walk and fielder’s choice loaded the bases before Pruemer hit a fly ball to left that allowed Althoff to race home with the winning run.
North Clay scored single tallies in the first three innings to build a 3-0 lead. Derek Konkel blasted a solo home run in the third and the Shoes added an unearned run in the fourth to close to within 3-2.
Buehnerkemper relieved in the sixth inning. He pitched the final 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball to get the win. He allowed two hits, while striking out two and walking one. Konkel pitched the first 5.2 innings.
The Shoes improved to 5-7. They will play Saturday in the North Clay Classic.
