A 14-0 first-half run put the Lady Shoes in charge. SJO jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead, but then went into a near 10-minute scoring drought. Emily Konkel converted a turnover into a basket at the 5:18 mark of the opening period that started the scoring spree.
Back-to-back turnovers by the Lady Spartans were turned into buckets by Konkel and Chloe Probst to close out the first eight minutes with THS on top 12-7. Courtney Gibson and Taylor Bueker then scored to open the second period to complete the 14-0 surge and increase the gap to 16-7.
A three-pointer by Addison Frick snapped the 10-minute dry spell for SJO, but the Lady Shoes scored the final six points of the half to take a 22-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Teutopolis put the game away in the third quarter. Kaylee Niebrugge and Konkel had the first two baskets of the third quarter that sparked a 9-2 surge. By the end of the period, Konkel had tallied eight points and Niebrugge six more, and the Lady Shoes 17-6 run had increased their advantage to 23 points, 39-16, entering the final period.
Niebrugge and Konkel paced T-Town with 16 and 15 points respectively. Overall, the Lady Shoes shot 49 percent from the floor, making 23-of-47 shots. They were 1-for-6 from behind the arc and 5-for-8 from the foul line. Niebrugge pulled down nine rebounds and Konkel had seven to help THS dominate the boards.
T-Town improved to 6-1 on the season. The Lady Shoes will return to action Monday night at St. Anthony. The Lady Bulldogs will bring a perfect 10-0 record into that contest.
“If we don’t come ready to play, we’ll be in trouble,” Thompson said. “St. Anthony has a nice team this year.”
