In a cold-shooting, low-scoring affair, the Teutopolis Lady Shoes escaped with a 36-28 victory Thursday night at Mattoon.
T-Town connected on just 15-of-51 shots overall, an icy 29 percent. But they made just enough, plus their defense clamped down, forcing the Lady Green Wave to shoot almost as badly. The hosts were only 11-of-34 from the floor, a 32 percent clip.
The Lady Shoes led 8-5 after the opening eight minutes, but were tied 13-13 at intermission. THS owned a slim 26-23 edge entering the fourth period and then outscored Mattoon 10-5 to secure the win.
Chloe Probst turned in a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kelsey Niemerg had seven points and Jersey Gaddis added six. Mattoon’s Ava Larson led all scorers with 15 points.
The Lady Shoes improved to 15-2 overall. They will travel to Breese Central on Saturday.
