Teutopolis bounced back from a tough defeat Friday in a big way.
Less than 18 hours after dropping a six-point decision at Lincoln, the Wooden Shoes returned home Saturday to post a convincing 76-31 victory over Lawrenceville.
T-Town was in control from the outset. The Shoes built a 22-13 lead after the first eight minutes and then outscored the Indians 39-14 over the next two quarters to take a comfortable 61-27 lead into the final quarter.
Evan Wermert poured in a game-high 21 points to lead the Shoes, while Matthew Deters added 13. Max Niebrugge pulled down five rebounds to help THS to a 33-14 rebounding advantage.
The Shoes, now 2-1 overall, will return to Apollo Conference action next week. They will play Tuesday night at Effingham; Friday at home against Charleston; and then travel to Mahomet-Seymour Saturday. T-Town enters the week with a 1-1 conference record.

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes don’t have a lot of varsity experience.
Plus, according to their coach, they don’t rebound very well or have a lot of foot speed.
And they’re press is still a work in progress and not ready to be used in a game yet.
But after two games, they’re 2-0 with an average margin of victory of 28 points.
So they’re doing something right.
A case in point was Saturday afternoon’s 55-20 thumping of Mt. Zion in T-Town’s home opener at J.H. Griffin Gymnasium.
“We’ve got things we need to work on, but overall, I’m pleased with how we’ve played these first two games,” said THS coach Laurie Thompson. “There isn’t a lot of varsity experience on our roster, but this group will come together. They are very coachable.”
The Lady Shoes got a pair of 3-pointers from Grace Tegeler and another from Lexie Niebrugge to break out to a 9-0 lead. It was 12-4 after the first eight minutes. And just 2½ minutes into the second period, the game was essentially over.
It took a while to get going, but then the Teutopolis Lady Shoes kicked it into gear.
The THS girls outscored Lincoln 32-14 in the second half Thursday night to pull away and post a 59-36 victory on the road in their season opener and first-ever Apollo Conference contest.
T-Town held a 27-22 advantage at intermission, but then took control in the third period. Kaylee Niebrugge scored six points, and Lexie Niebrugge and Emily Konkel both had five, helping the Lady Shoes outscore Lincoln 21-8 to open a 48-30 margin entering the final quarter.
Kaitlyn Schumacher then netted five points in the final eight minutes as Teutopolis expanded the lead even more, finishing with the 23-point victory.
Kaylee Niebrugge led three players in double figures with 15 points. Lexie Niebrugge knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and Konkel added 11.
The Lady Shoes will play their home opener Saturday against Mt. Zion in another conference matchup. The varsity game is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes made the long trip to Lincoln Friday night and were introduced to that tough zone defense the Railsplitters are known for.
If THS coach Chet Reeder was passing out grades, the Shoes would get an A+ for effort.
As for patience on offense? Well, let’s just say that grade would be much lower.
T-Town played Lincoln tough. The Shoes owned an early lead, suffered through a bad second quarter and kept the game close throughout before falling 43-37.
The Shoes got a pair of 3-pointers from Evan Addis and another from Max Niebrugge. After the first eight minutes, they held a slim 13-12 lead.
But the second quarter was a different story. The Railsplitters outscored the Shoes 10-2 to take a 22-15 lead at intermission.

Welcome to the Apollo Conference.
The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are competing in the Apollo for just this one season due to scheduling difficulties as a result of the COVID pandemic.
Playing in their very first Apollo Conference contest Tuesday night, the Shoes served notice they could be a handful to deal with.
They got off to a fast start and never looked back, cruising to a 76-43 victory at home over Mt. Zion.
“This was certainly a good start for us,” THS coach Chet Reeder admitted. “I was happy how we came out and set the tone.”
That “tone” included pressure defense that created numerous turnovers and deadly 3-point shooting, especially in the first half.
Two and half minutes into the contest, the game was tied 4-4. Back-to-back threes by Evan Addis and Jordan Hardiek gave THS a lead it never relinquished. But it was still just a five-point margin, 15-10, with two minutes left in the opening quarter when the Shoes exploded and quickly blew the game open.
They forced five turnovers in those final two minutes and converted after four of them. Two free throws by Evan Wermert started what would be 16-0 scoring surge. The Braves then turned the ball over on four consecutive possessions and the Shoes responded each time. Wermert hit two jumpers and Hardiek drained a pair of long threes to expand T-Town’s lead to 27-10 when the first period ended.
