Emily Konkel belted a pair of solo home runs Monday, including a seventh-inning shot that proved to be the game-winner, as the Teutopolis Lady Shoes pulled out a 6-5 win at South Central.
T-Town trailed 4-3 before Konkel smacked a pitch over the rightfield fence to tie the game in the fifth. The Lady Cougars took the lead with a single tally in the bottom of the fifth, but THS tied the game in the sixth when Danielle Sarchet tripled and Estella Mette brought her in with a ground ball.
Then in the top of the seventh, Konkel led off and sent the second pitch she saw over the leftfield fence to put the Lady Shoes on top.
Courtney Gibson allowed only a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory, the fifth straight for Teutopolis. Gibson came on in relief of Jordan Goeckner in the fifth. She blanked South Central on three hits over the final three innings. She allowed two walks and recorded to a pair of strikeouts.
The Lady Shoes owned a 3-0 lead in the second. Sarchet drove in the first run with the first of her two triples in the game. Mette drove her in when she reached on an error and eventually scored on a base hit by Goeckner.
South Central scored one run in the bottom of the second and added three more in the third.
The Lady Shoes improved to 10-2. They will play again today (Tuesday) at home against Tuscola.
