Maggie Grohmann blasted a home run and drove in five runs and Sophia Donoho tossed a three-hitter, helping the Highland Lady Bulldogs post an 11-1, six-inning victory at home Thursday over Teutopolis.
Grohmann had an RBI double in the first, drove in another with a ground out in the third and then smacked a three-run homer as part of a five-run fourth inning that broke the game open.
The Lady Shoes managed just three hits. Emily Konkel had two of those, including a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning. Konkel also had a single in the sixth and Estella Mette had a base hit in the third.
Donoho didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven. Jordan Goeckner took the loss. She allowed 12 hits and 11 runs, while walking seven and striking out one.
The Lady Shoes dipped to 14-4. They will be back in action tonight (Friday). They will face St. Anthony in the annual Cross Creek Classic. The game will be played at Evergreen Hollow Park in Effingham. Game time is 7 p.m.
