For the third straight game, the Teutopolis Lady Shoes came to bat in the bottom of the seventh trailing.

Twice on Saturday against Mt. Zion, they staged a rally, only to come up short.

Monday’s effort produced a different result.

Kaylee Nibrugge delivered a two-out, two-run single in the seventh to tie the game and Estella Mette then came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Lady Shoes to a 8-7 victory.

T-Town trailed 7-3 in the seventh. Mette was hit by a pitch and Danielle Sarchet doubled to get the seventh-inning rally started. Erin Althoff followed with an RBI single and Emily Konkel lifted a sacrifice fly to close the gap to 7-5.

Lexie Niebrugge walked, and both she and Althoff moved up to second and third on a ground out. Kaylee Niebrugge then came through with the big two-out hit to tie the game.

Newton put two runners on base in the top of the eighth, but failed to score.

In the bottom of the inning, Courtney Gibson led off with single and went to second when the outfielder misplayed it. Mette then lined a 1-2 pitch up the middle and Gibson raced home with the walk-off game winner.

The Lady Shoes broke on top 3-0 in the first inning. One run scored on an error, Kaylee Niebrugge had a sacrifice fly to bring in the second run and Tia Probst capped the inning with an RBI single.

Newton then scored twice in the second, added the tying run in the fifth and then took a 7-3 lead with a four-run sixth.

Probst pitched all eight innings to get the win. She allowed 10 hits and seven runs, while walking seven and striking out four.

The Lady Shoes are now 9-6 on the season. They are scheduled to play today (Tuesday) at Olney.
