The ability to deliver two-out hits can be a key in any softball game.
It certainly was Wednesday afternoon.
The Teutopolis Lady Shoes came through three times and that proved to be enough, as they posted a 3-1 victory at Olney.
Daischa Piedra, Tia Probst and Erin Althoff each came through in the clutch with two-out hits that drove in a run each time.
It started in the opening inning. With two outs, Lexie Niebrugge doubled and Piedra followed with a base hit to put the Lady Shoes on top 1-0.
T-Town increased its lead to 2-0 in the third. Althoff reached on an error and Lexie Niebrugge singled. Then with two outs, Probst came through with a base hit, driving in Althoff.
After Olney trimmed the lead to 2-1, the Lady Shoes tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. With two outs, Danielle Sarchet lined a double and Althoff followed with another two-bagger, driving Sarchet home.
Courtney Gibson turned in a strong pitching performance. She went seven innings and gave up just three hits and one unearned run. She walked four and struck out seven.
The Lady Shoes are now 10-6 on the season. They are scheduled to play today (Thursday) at Mahomet-Seymour.
