The St. Anthony Bulldogs erupted for seven runs in the first inning Saturday and were never challenged, finishing with a 13-1 victory at Olney.

The win kept the Bulldogs perfect through 11 games so far this spring.

St. Anthony struck quickly. Logan Antrim singled, Kennan Walsh walked and both runners moved up a base on a passed ball. Colton Fearday’s fly ball brought home the first run and the second scored on an error. Will Hoene walked, Angelo Mendella had an RBI single and Eli Link walked to load the bases.

Eli Levitt was hit by a pitch to force home the fourth run, another scored on a passed ball and Antrim came through with his second hit of the inning, driving in two more to stake the Bulldogs to the 7-0 lead.

Two errors and a two-run double by Mendella made it 9-1 in the second and the Bulldogs then tacked on four more runs in the fifth to complete the scoring.

Josh Blanchette went the first four innings to get the win. He allowed just two hits and one run, while walking two and striking out one. Levitt pitched the fifth.

The Bulldogs, now 11-0, will return home to play Charleston on Monday.

The St. Anthony baseball team is a perfect “10.”

The Bulldogs broke open a close game with a five-run fifth Wednesday afternoon, en route to an 11-4 win at Newton that kept their record unblemished after 10 games.

St. Anthony held a slim 4-3 lead as it came to bat in the top of the fifth. Eli Moore led off the inning with a base hit and came around to score on a double by Brody Niebrugge. After a Will Hoene single, Angelo Mendella delivered an RBI single, Eli Link had a sacrifice fly, another run scored after a bunt by Josh Blanchette and the final tally came across after a Newton error.

Colton Fearday added a two-run homer in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Moore put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the opening inning with a solo blast that cleared the centerfield fence. SAHS added two runs in the second and another in the third on a two-out RBI double by Mendella.

Logan Antrim pitched the first six innings to get the win. The Bulldogs left-hander allowed eight hits and four runs, while walking four and striking out eight. Eli Levitt pitched the seventh.

The Bulldogs, now 10-0, will return to action Saturday at home against Olney.

Eli Moore had two hits and drove home five runs Saturday, leading the St. Anthony Bulldogs to an 8-2 victory at Marshall.

Moore had a bases-clearing double in the third and a two-run single in the fourth, helping the Bulldogs post their eighth win without a loss so far this spring.

The Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie in the third. Eli Levitt started things off with a double. Kennan Walsh and Colton Fearday both walked to load the bases and Moore then ripped a double, driving in all three runners. He later scored on an error to stake SAHS to a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs followed with another four-run frame in the fourth. With one out, Logan Antrim and Walsh singled and both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Moore then came through again, collecting a single that got two more runs across the plate. An error and a ground out accounted for the final two runs of the inning.

That was more than enough runs for Brody Niebrugge, who pitched the first five innings and got the win. He gave up three hits and two runs, while walking one and striking out eight. Josh Blanchette pitched the final two innings.

St. Anthony, now 8-0, will play Monday at home against Mattoon and then travel to Newton on Tuesday.

Colton Fearday raced home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the St. Anthony Bulldogs a 3-2 victory at home Monday afternoon over Mattoon.

Fearday started the game-winning rally with a one-out double. After Eli Moore walked, both runners moved up a base after a double steal. Then on the second pitch to Will Hoene, the Mattoon pitcher uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Fearday to scamper home for the walk-off win.

It ended what was a close game throughout.

The Bulldogs broke out to a 2-0 lead in the second. Eli Moore led off with a home run. Brody Niebrugge and Hoene then delivered base hits, followed by two straight walks. The second was to Logan Antrim and forced in a run.

Mattoon scored single tallies in the third and sixth.

Fearday also got the pitching win. Seth Hotze started and went the first 5.1 innings, giving up four hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out three. Fearday relieved in the sixth and pitched the final 3.2 innings. He allowed just one hit, while walking two and striking out eight.

The Bulldogs stayed undefeated, improving to 9-0. They are scheduled to play today (Tuesday) at Newton and then return home to face Olney on Saturday.

St. Anthony is proving it can win baseball games in a variety of ways.

On Monday, the Bulldogs needed an 11-hit attack, including two long home runs, to rally from a seven-run deficit and win 11-9.

On Thursday, they relied on the arm of Logan Antrim.

The senior left-hander tossed a three-hit, complete game, helping St. Anthony stay undefeated with a 2-1 win at home over South Central.

Antrim walked three and struck out eight while throwing 105 pitches. The only run he allowed was unearned.

That run came in the top of the sixth and gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

But the Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the inning and they, too, took advantage of miscues.

With one out, Antrim was hit by a pitch, went to second on a passed ball and scored when Kennan Walsh’s ground ball was booted for an error. Walsh then raced to third on a base hit by Colton Fearday and scored the winning run when South Central pitcher Aaron Dodson threw wildly when trying to pick him off.

South Central got its lead-off man on base in the seventh, but Antrim retired the next three batters to secure the win and improve St. Anthony to 7-0.

It was a pitcher’s duel throughout. Antrim and Dodson matched each other pitch for pitch. Dodson also allowed just three hits and both runs were unearned. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out three.

Fearday had two of St. Anthony’s hits. In addition to his sixth-inning single, he also had a two-out single in the first. The other hit was by Will Hoene. He singled leading off the fifth, but was erased in a double play.

The Bulldogs will travel to Marshall on Saturday.
