Chicago Lab won four of the five divisions Saturday to capture first place in the 16-team St. Anthony Tennis Invitational.

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs had one first-place and three runner-up finishes to get second and Teutopolis was third. Chicago lab had 43 total points, while St. Anthony accumulated 34 and T-Town had 26.

In addition, Effingham varsity finished in a tie for 12th, along with the Teutopolis JV team, while the Effingham JV was 14th and St. Anthony JV tied for 15th.

Other teams entered included Bloomington Central Catholic, Charleston, MFHS-LSA, Morton, Mt. Zion, Newton, Robinson (varsity), Robinson (junior varsity) and Shelbyville.

St. Anthony’s Caroline Deters captured first place in No. 3 singles. She went 4-0 overall and defeated Adrianna Nehme (Chicago Lab) in three sets in the finals. The scores were 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Deters won in straight sets in her three other matches.

The Lady Bulldogs finished second in No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Emilee Mossman opened the 2019 season in impressive fashion Saturday, winning four matches and finishing first in No. 1 singles play.

That helped the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs capture third place in the Centennial Charger Invitational in Champaign.

Teutopolis also participated in the 16-team event and was seventh overall. Chicago Latin was the tourney champion with 27.5 total points and Belleville West was runner-up with 18. St. Anthony had 17 and the Lady Shoes finished with 12.

Emily Mossman was dominant in her play, winning her first three sets without a dropping a single game and then defeating Lucy Mitchell (Chicago Latin) in the finals by scores of 6-4, 6-1. She opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Camryn Mitchell (Lincoln-Way East) and followed that with another 6-0, 6-0 decision over Maria Copazzi (Belleville East).

In the semifinals, she then defeated her sister, Dianna Mossoman, from Teutopolis, in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
