Lucy Fearday almost outscored Shelbyville by herself.

The talented sophomore poured in 30 points, helping the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs to a convincing 68-33 victory at home Thursday night over the Lady Rams.

Riley Guy scored nine first-quarter points and Fearday added five more, as SAHS took a 16-10 lead after the opening eight minutes. Fearday then scored 12 points in the second period and 11 more in the third quarter, as the Lady Bulldogs went on a 38-18 scoring surge to open a commanding 26-point cushion, 54-28.

Guy finished with 14 points and Grace Karolewicz added 11 for St. Anthony.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 12-8, will be back in action Saturday with a game at Flora.

Talk about good free throw shooting.

The St. Anthony Bulldogs went 16-for-16 in the two overtime periods Tuesday night, helping them post a tough 79-72 double overtime victory at Robinson.

The game was tied 50-50 at the end of regulation and again at 62-62 after the first extra period.

Kyle Stewart then scored nine points and Brock Fearday added six more, sparking the Bulldogs on a 17-10 scoring run to end the game and secure the victory.

Stewart and Griffin Sehy both went 6-for-6 from the foul stripe in the overtime sessions.

But it took a pair of free throws from Brock Fearday to even get the Bulldogs to overtime.

ET Sports Report

Just 47 seconds into the fourth quarter, things were looking good for the St. Anthony Bulldogs.

Kyle Stewart had just scored after grabbing an offensive rebound. The Bulldogs led seven points and seemed to have all the momentum.

But in the game of basketball, things can change quickly.

Such was the case in this game.

After committing just five turnovers through the first three quarters, the Bulldogs suddenly couldn’t take care of the basketball. They turned the ball over eight times in the final five minutes, including four straight possessions during one two-minute stretch.

And the Knoxville Blue Bullets took advantage. They converted four of those into baskets, put together a decisive 12-0 run and rallied for a 48-43 win in the seventh place game of the 8th annual Effingham-Teutopolis Christmas Classic.

“Until we can take that next step and gain some mental toughness, we’ll continue to be an average basketball team,” St. Anthony coach Cody Rincker said. “They pressured us a little and we weren’t strong with the basketball. The wheels fell off, our lead evaporated and we never got back at it.”

Knoxville’s David Hise – an all-tournament selection – spearheaded the comeback. With the Blue Bullets trailing 35-28, he hit three free throws and Braden Downs hit a short jumper to make it 35-33 with 5:09 to play.

Over the next 51 seconds, the Bulldogs turned the ball over on four consecutive possessions, and Knoxville scored after three of them. Hise converted the first two into layups and Kellen McClay capped the run with a three-pointer to give the Blue Bullets a five-point cushion, 40-35, at the 4:18 mark.

No, it’s not a typo.

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs defeated Casey-Westfield 59-2 Monday night.

The Lady Warriors got a free throw in the first quarter and another in the fourth period and that was it. They did not make a single basket.

So the game was over quickly.

The Lady Bulldogs got eight points from Lucy Fearday and four more from Grace Karolewicz, while jumping out to an 18-1 lead after the initial eight minutes.

Casey-Westfield didn’t score a single point in the middle two quarters. Heading into the fourth period, St. Anthony led 46-1.

Fearday finished with 22 points, while Karolewicz scored 12 and Anna Faber added 10.

St. Anthony is now 11-8 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action Thursday with a home game against Shelbyville.

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs secured a fifth place finish by posting a 60-53 victory over Altamont Wednesday on the final day of the Mattoon Holiday Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs finished with a 3-2 record in tourney play, which included two wins over the Lady Indians.

The game was close throughout. SAHS led 14-11 after the first period, but Altamont came back to knot the score 30-30 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs then forged ahead and took a 44-39 lead into the final eight minutes.

Grace Nelson led Altamont with a game-high 28 points and Peyton Osteen added 13.

The Lady Bulldogs had three players in double figures. Lucy Fearday led the way with 21 points, while Abbi Hatton scored 15 and Riley Guy added 10.

Fearday was named to the all-tournament team, while Guy and Hatton were honorable mention.

St. Anthony is now 10-8 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday, Jan. 3, with a home game against Casey-Westfield.
