Kaden Eirhart scored eight points, including four clutch free throws down the stretch, helping the Altamont Indians post a 41-38 victory at home Tuesday night over St. Anthony.
This game wasn’t originally scheduled. St. Anthony was set to play North Clay and Altamont was supposed to play South Central, but both of those games were cancelled due to weather concerns. So St. Anthony and Altamont worked it out to play each other in a non-conference contest.
The game was close throughout. It was 7-7 after eight minutes. Altamont then built an 18-13 lead at intermission and still held a slim 26-24 edge after three quarters.
In the final eight minutes, the Indians converted 7-of-10 foul shots and got eight points from Eirhart to secure the victory. St. Anthony made only 4-of-9 foul shots in the last quarter.
Eirhart finished with a game-high 17 points. For the Bulldogs, Kennan Walsh led the way with 12 points and Grant Nuxoll added 11, including nine if the fourth period.
St. Anthony, now 2-1, will return to action Saturday with a home game against Newton.
It was quite the opening weekend for the St. Anthony Bulldogs.
After posting a whopping 39-point win over Neoga Friday night, the Bulldogs were right back in action 24 hours later at The Enlow Center.
It wasn’t nearly as easy Saturday night, but Logan Antrim pumped in nine fourth-quarter points that helped St. Anthony pull away from a tight game and post a 53-46 victory over Robinson.
The Bulldogs held a slim 12-10 lead after the opening eight minutes, but the game was tied 23-23 at halftime and 35-35 after three quarters.
In that final period, SAHS got a 3-pointer from Grant Nuxoll and also converted 11-of-17 free throws. Antrim was 5-of-6 from the foul stripe.
Antrim, who was held to just five points through three periods, finished with a game-high 14 points. Kennan Walsh, Nuxoll and Craig Croy each scored eight for the Bulldogs.
St. Anthony will play two games this coming week. They will travel to North Clay for a National Trail Conference contest Tuesday night and then return home to face Newton on Saturday.

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs tightened up their defense, showed more patience on offense and got a strong performance from Lucy Fearday in the final quarter.
That combination proved to be successful as the Lady Bulldogs rallied in the final eight minutes to post a 42-39 season-opening victory at home Thursday night over North Clay.
The visiting Lady Cardinals held a 37-31 advantage heading into the final eight minutes. But they missed all seven of their shots and turned the ball over six times. As a result, St. Anthony scored the first 10 points of the quarter and withstood some cold free throw shooting down the stretch to secure the win.
“For a team that’s only had three practices so far, I was really pleased with how we came out to play,” St. Anthony coach Aaron Rios said. “We have to clean some things up and get the rust off. But I thought we gave a good effort.”
Especially in that fourth period.

The St. Anthony Bulldogs did not look like a team playing its first game of the year with a roster full of inexperience.
But after Friday night’s 68-29 thumping of Neoga, Bulldogs coach Cody Rincker simply said, “I’m speechless.”
Yes, St. Anthony’s roster includes nine seniors, but only Logan Antrim and Kennan Walsh have any varsity experience. The remainder of the roster, which includes three juniors and a sophomore, has zero.
But you wouldn’t have known that Friday night.
“This is the least amount of varsity experience I’ve ever had,” said Rincker, entering his eighth season as head coach. “But this group has played a lot together through the years. And I think that showed tonight.”
It took about three-and-a-half minutes for things to kick in. But once it did, the rout was on.
After Isaac Walk hit a short jumper at the 4:32 mark of the opening period, the Indians trailed, but by just two points, 10-8. But the guests didn’t score again for nearly 11 minutes. Neoga missed 14 straight shots and turned the ball over seven times during the stretch.
In the meantime, the Bulldogs were knocking down shots from all over the court. Antrim and Justin Ruholl both knocked down a pair of threes and Craig Croy added another. At the end of the first quarter, St. Anthony had scored nine straight points and led 19-8.
But they were just getting started, as the onslaught continued in the second quarter.
St. Anthony senior Jaccob Dust was voted Most Valuable Player on the National Trail All-Conference Basketball Team.
Dust helped St. Anthony to a perfect 8-0 record in the NTC regular season. The Bulldogs also won the National Trail Conference Tournament and finished their season with a 29-4 record.
St. Anthony teammates Jack Hoene and Logan Antrim were both named to the second team.
Here is the complete list:
