In the first meeting between these two schools, St. Anthony dominated and posted a lopsided 60-30 decision. It was clear, especially in the first half, it wasn’t going to be so easy Friday night.
The Bulldogs held a slim 13-11 lead after the first eight minutes and were on top 28-19 at intermission. But they got it going in the third quarter.
Ty Wiedman knocked down a pair of three-pointers and scored eight points, while Grant Nuxoll and Craig Croy added four apiece and Kennan Walsh chipped in with another from long range. All that helped the Bulldogs go on a 24-14 scoring spree that increased their margin to 52-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

St. Anthony was floundering on offense.
The Bulldogs were a perfect example of that old adage – “They couldn’t throw it in the ocean.”
Through the first 15 minutes and 48 seconds, they had scored only 11 points and were 0-for-12 from three-point range.
But No. 13 proved to be lucky. As did No. 14 just a few seconds later.
Kennan Walsh got open in the corner and hit St. Anthony’s first three of the game with just 12 seconds to play in the first half. On that play, a North Clay defender fouled Logan Antrim away from the ball, which meant the Bulldogs also got the ball back.
Then, just eight seconds later, Antrim drilled another three – from almost the exact same spot on the court as Walsh – sending SAHS to the locker room with a seven-point advantage.
That was the spark the Bulldogs needed.
They carried that momentum into the second half, shot much better overall and pulled away for a 50-30 victory Wednesday night that clinched the National Trail Conference championship once again.
St. Anthony has won or shared the conference title six straight seasons.
The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs built a double-digit lead by halftime Saturday and rolled to a 53-38 National Trail Conference victory at St. Elmo/Brownstown.
Riley Guy pumped in eight first-quarter points, helping the Lady Bulldogs go on top 12-7. Lucy Fearday then scored seven points in the second period, SAHS went on a 20-11 scoring run and led 32-18 at intermission.
St. Anthony didn’t let up in the third quarter, expanding its lead to 18 points, 45-27, entering the final eight minutes.
Fearday scored 15 points and Riley added 13 to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-7 overall and 5-3 in the National Trail Conference. They will play at Effingham Tuesday night and then finish their season Thursday night, hosting Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the NTC Shootout. Game time will be at 5 p.m.
