St. Anthony boys post victory
St. Anthony made the bus ride to Olney Wednesday and came home with a triangular win at Richland Country Club.
Thomas Chojnicki fired a 36, helping the Bulldogs to a 163 team total, 13 strokes better than runner-up Olney. Mt. Carmel finished with a 183 total.
For SAHS, Jonathon Willenborg shot 40, Michael Martelli 42 and Charlie Wegman 45 to complete the team score. Aidan Tegeler (46), Lane Ludwig (47) and Grant Nuxoll (51) also competed.
Lady Hearts beat Sullivan
Ava Boehm shot a 37 Wednesday afternoon, leading the Effingham Lady Hearts to a 191-233 win at Sullivan.
Anna Sigg fired a 44 and Anna Hirtzel and Annie Frost both turned in a round of 55 to complete the team scoring on the Sullivan Country Club course. Ella Niebrugge (57), Marissa Allie (57), Marah Kirk (59) and Emilie Vincent (65) also participated.
Lady Bulldogs win triangular
Macy Ludwig turned in a terrific nine-roll round Wednesday afternoon and the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs rolled to a win at Richland Country Club in Olney.
Ludwig had a 2-under par 33 to claim medalist honors and help SAHS to a 150 team score. Mt. Carmel shot 169 and Olney 205.
For St. Anthony, Ellie Wegman shot 37, while Lauren Schwing, Reagan Westendorf and Nina Hakman all finished with a 40. Cara Hakman (46) also competed.
CROSS COUNTRY
T-Town girls win meet
The Teutopolis Lady Shoes claimed four of the top five places Wednesday afternoon, en route to a cross country victory at Ballard Nature Center.
THS finished with 20 team points, while St. Anthony had 39. Altamont and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City also had runners, but not enough to earn a team score.
T-Town’s Jessica Runde captured first place with a time of 21:07. Also for the Lady Shoes, Olivia Copple was third in 22:47; Kaitlyn Vahling fourth in 23:30; Kaitlyn Schumacher fifth in 23:42; and Taylor Bueker seventh in 24:14.
For St. Anthony, Riley Willenborg finished second with a time of 21:53. In addition, Emma Helmink was sixth in 23:54; Anna Faber eighth in 24:29; Stacie Vonderheide ninth in 25:05; and Riley Guy 14th in 26:15.
St. Anthony boys dominate in victory
The Bulldogs captured the first four places Wednesday afternoon to post an impressive cross country win at Ballard Nature Center.
St. Anthony finished with 16 team points and Teutopolis was second at 52. Altamont and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City also had runners, but not enough to earn a team score.
For the Bulldogs, Noah Tegeler was first with a time of 17:23. Brian Dust was second in 17:46; Griffen Elder third in 17:57; Ty Wiedman fourth in 18:14; and Gio Buccio sixth in 18:31.
For the Wooden Shoes, Matthew Deters ran fifth in 18:25; Cole Probst eighth in 18:34; Gavin Tegeler 12th in 19:36; Brody Mette 13th in 19:53; and Ben Kitten 14th in 20:05.
Altamont’s Derrick Budde finished fifth in 18:23.

St. Anthony girls win triangular
Morgan Schuette fired a 2-over par 37 Tuesday afternoon, helping the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs win a triangular golf match at Vandalia Country Club.
St. Anthony finished with a 156 total, followed by Shelbyville at 209 and Vandalia at 231.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Nina Hakman finished with a 38, Macy Ludwig 40 and Ellie Wegman, Lauren Schwing and Reagan Westendorf each shot 41.
Lady Hearts beat Mt. Zion
Ava Boehm claimed medalist honors Tuesday, leading the Effingham Lady Hearts to victory over Mt. Zion at Effingham Country Club.
Boehm shot a 40, helping EHS finished with a 199 team total. Mt. Zion shot 207.
For the Lady Hearts, Anna Sigg finished with a 47, Marah Kirk 55 and Annie Frost 57 to complete the team score. Ella Niebrugge (57) and Anna Hirtzel (59) also competed.
Teutopolis boys post win on tie-breaker
The Teutopolis-Robinson golf match couldn’t have been any closer.
When the two teams added up their top four scores Tuesday afternoon, the Shoes and Maroons were tied at 197. But when the fifth score was used as the tie-breaker, THS came out on top. In the tie-breaker, T-Town won 53-57.
Gabe Schlink led the Shoes with a 47 and tied for medalist honors. Hayden Jansen shot 48, Andy Niebrugge 49 and Zac Niebrugge and Ethan Thoele both finished with a 53.
Bulldogs second in quadrangular match
Vandalia proved once again why it has one of the top boys golf teams in the area.
The Vandals had five players shoot sub-40 rounds Tuesday afternoon, en route to a first place finish in the four-team event. Vandalia finished with a 144 total. St. Anthony was runner-up at 163, followed by Meridian at 200 and Shelbyville at 213.
Vandalia’s Riley Buckman was the medalist with a 34, while teammate Connor McCall shot 35

Effingham falls to Charleston in dual
The Effingham Hearts hosted Charleston Tuesday afternoon, but dropped a 170-180 decision at Effingham Country Club.
For EHS, Ryker Schneider shot 44, Preston Latch and Ethan Ritz 45 and Nick Burgess 46 to complete the team score. Max Woelfer (48), Coly Haynes (55), David Splechter (55) and Jack Blickem (55) also competed.

St. Anthony tops Effingham
The two Effingham schools got together for a girls tennis match Tuesday and the Lady Bulldogs prevailed by a score of 8-1.
St. Anthony won all six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to claim the victory.

Lady Shoes narrowly beat Olney
The Teutopolis girls tennis team received a tough challenge Tuesday, but came away with a 5-4 victory over Olney.
The two teams split the six singles matches, but the Lady Shoes won two of the three matches to secure the win.

St. Anthony boys, girls win triangular
Thomas Chojnicki really went low Wednesday afternoon.
The St. Anthony golfer turned in sparkling nine-hole round of 34, leading the Bulldogs to a victory over Altamont and Effingham at Effingham County Club.
The Lady Bulldogs followed suit, also posting wins over the Lady Indians and Lady Hearts.
Jonathan Willenborg also had a sub-40 round, finishing with a 39, helping SAHS to a 156 team total. The Hearts were second at 169 and Indians finished at 177.
Charlie Wegman shot a 40 and Michael Martelli a 43 to complete the Bulldogs scoring. Lane Ludwig (45), Aidan Tegeler (48) and Grant Nuxoll (53) also competed.
For Effingham, Max Woelfer shot 41, followed by Preston Latch at 42 and Nick Burgess and Ryker Schneider both at 43. Colby Haynes (44), David Splechter (48) and Ethan Ritz (50) also played for EHS.
Altamont’s Tyler Stonecipher also turned in a strong round, finishing with a 35. Kevin Hall shot 42, Avery Jarhaus 48 and Tyler Stuckemeyer 52 to round out the team score.
In the girls match, Ellie Wegman shot a 41 to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who finished with a 168 total. The Lady Hearts had 194 and Altamont 219. Macy Ludwig, Reagan Westendorf and Lauren Schwing all shot 43. Nina Hakman (47) also played.
Effingham’s Ava Boehm shared medalist honors with Wegman, also finishing with a 41. Anna Sigg shot 46, Annie Frost 53 and Anna Hirtzel 54 to complete the team score. Marah Kirk (58) and Ella Niebrugge (62) also competed.
For Altamont, Isabella Hosick shot 48, Kimberly Brummer 54, Madison Splechter 57 and Megan Williams 60.

St. Anthony hosts match play event
Vandalia won seven of its eight matches Monday afternoon, en route to finishing first in the St. Anthony Match Play Event, played at Effingham Country Club.
The format included four singles matches and four best ball matches.
The Vandals finished with 7½ points in the eight-team event. Mattoon was runner-up with 6½ points, followed by Charleston at 5½, St. Anthony 5, Oblong 3½, Paris 3, Teutopolis 1 and Effingham 0.

Bulldogs, Hearts play in triangular
The St. Anthony and Effingham boys golf teams traveled to the Mattoon Country Club Friday to compete in a triangular meet.
The host Green Wave posted a two-stroke victory over the Bulldogs. Mattoon finished with a 163 total, while SAHS was close behind at 165. Effingham was third with a 194 total.
Mattoon’s Blaine Powers was the medalist, shooting a nine-hole total of 39.
For St. Anthony, Thomas Chojnicki led the way with a 40, while Jonathan Willenborg and Lane Ludwig both shot 41 and Charlie Wegman 43 to round out the team scoring. Michael Martelli (49), Aidan Tegeler (50) and Grant Nuxoll (51) also competed.
Ryker Schneider had the best round for EHS, shooting 45. Max Woelfer finished with a 47, Ethan Ritz 50 and Preston Latch 52 to compete the team score. Nick Burgess (53) and Coby Haines (54) also competed.
