The St. Anthony girls golf team continued its winning ways Thursday, posting a 37-stroke victory at Tuscola.
Macy Ludwig was the medalist, shooting a nine-hole round of 37. Reagan Westendorf finished with a 40, followed by Cara Hakman with 45 and Maddie Brummer 46 to complete the team score. Jessica Coffin (56) also participated.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to play Tuesday with a match at St. Thomas More.
Once again, Macy Ludwig and Ellie Wegman set the pace, both shooting nine-hole rounds of 38 Wednesday afternoon, helping the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs captured first place in the Olney Invitational, played at the Richland Country Club.
St. Anthony finished with a team total of 158, which was five strokes better than runner-up Mt. Carmel’s 163. Effingham was third in the six-team field with a 169, followed by Charleston with 190, Olney 213 and Salem 218.
Morgan Schuette and Nina Hakman both shot 41 to round out the Lady Bulldogs scoring. Lauren Schwing and Reagan Westendorf also played and both finished with 43.
Mt. Carmel’s Madelyn Young was the medalist, finishing with a 37.
Effingham’s Ava Boehm also had a fine round, shooting a 38 to lead the Lady Hearts. Also for EHS, Kennedy Collier shot 42, Morgan Krouse 43 and Jaelyn Boone 46 to complete the scoring. Anna Sigg (51) and Anna Hirtzel (61) also competed.
St. Anthony will play today (Thursday) at Tuscola.
Effingham will return to action Tuesday at Salem.
St. Anthony hosted a quadrangular golf match Tuesday afternoon and posted an easy victory.
The Bulldogs had four golfers shoot sub-40 rounds at Fox Prairie Golf Course to finish with a 150 total, 44 shots ahead of the second place finisher. Shelbyville shot 194, followed by Okaw Valley at 219 and Meridian at 223.
Luke Flaig was medalist with a 36, followed by Thomas Chojnicki 37, Ryan Schultz 38 and Jayden Rios 39. Also playing were Michael Martelli (40), Jonathan Willenborg (41), Darin Hutchison (42) and Aidan Tegeler (47).
“We played probably our best round of golf to date,” said St. Anthony coach Phil Zaccari. “It is not often that we get to throw out a 40 and a 41. Senior Luke Flaig played a solid even par round. We’ve been waiting for him to get it going. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.
“Thomas Chojnicki also played great, recording a personal best 1 over par,” Zaccari added. “Thomas has been pretty consistent. Overall, it was a great team performance.”
The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in match play.
St. Anthony, along with Effingham and Teutopolis, will play Friday and Saturday in the Mattoon Invitational.
Ellie Wegman fired a 37 and Macy Ludwig added a 38, helping the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs post a win Tuesday in a triangular golf match.
Morgan Schuette and Reagan Westendorf both shot 40, as the Lady Bulldogs finished with a 155 total to easily defeat Effingham and Mt. Zion, who finished 181 and 220 respectively.
Also playing for St. Anthony was Lauren Schwing (42), Nina Hakman (43), Cara Hakman (46), Jessica Coffin (52) and Maddy Brummer (54).
Effingham’s Ava Boehm was the medalist with a 36. Also for EHS, Morgan Krouse shot 46, Kennedy Collier 49 and Anna Sigg 50 to complete the scoring. Also participating were Jaelyn Boone (56) and Anna Hirtzel (58).
Both the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Hearts will play today (Wednesday) in the Olney Invitational.
Three local schools squared off Monday afternoon at the Fox Prairie Golf Course outside Windsor.
The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs turned in a final of 168 strokes and defeated both Effingham and Teutopolis. The Lady Hearts finished with 178 and the Lady Shoes 235.
Macy Ludwig turned in St. Anthony’s best round, finishing with a nine-hole total of 39. Morgan Schuette shot 41 and Ellie Wegman and Lauren Schwing both had a 44 to round out the team scoring. Also playing for the Lady Bulldogs were Reagan Westendorf (44) and Nina Hakman (45).
Effingham’s Ava Boehm was medalist, finishing with a 37. Morgan Krouse shot 45, while Kennedy Collier and Anna Sigg both finished at 48. Anna Hirtzel (62) and Jaelyn Boone (66) also competed for EHS.
Averie Bushue had T-Town’s low round, finishing with a 48. Maggie Koester shot 53, Alaina Helmink 63 and Abby Wortman 71 for the Lady Shoes. Mollie Koester (72) also played.
St. Anthony, along with Mt. Zion, will play the Lady Hearts today (Tuesday) at the Effingham Country Club. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
Teutopolis will travel to Charleston on Thursday.
