The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes participated in a round robin in Tolono Saturday and won both games.
The Shoes used strong pitching to beat Quincy Notre Dame, 4-1, in the first game, and then banged out 15 hits to beat Unity in the second contest, 15-1, in five innings.
Garrett Gaddis went the first four innings against Quincy Notre Dame and got the win. The lefty allowed five hits and one run. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven. Davin Worman pitched the final three innings to get the save. He gave up two hits, while walking two and striking out five.
The Shoes took a 1-0 lead in the third. Gaddis got a lead-off base hit and came around to score on an RBI double by Mick Niebrugge.
T-Town added two more runs in the fourth. A single and an error started things. Brett Kreke drove in one run with a base hit and the second scored on a balk.
Teutopolis wrapped up the scoring with a single tally in the fifth. Mick Niebrugge doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mitch Koester.
In the second game, Mick Niebrugge, Waldhoff and Devin Kreke combined for eight hits and eight RBI.
Waldhoff blasted a three-run homer in the six-run fourth that helped the Shoes break the game open. Mick Niebrugge had a two-run single in the first and added an RBI single in the fourth. Kreke also drove in a run in the fourth and added an RBI double in the fifth when T-Town added five more runs.
Gaddis also got the win against Unity. He went the first three innings, allowing four hits and a run. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out four. Austin Borries pitched the final two innings.
The Shoes, now 11-5, will play Monday at Charleston and then Tuesday at St. Anthony.
Austin Borries and Carter Hoene combined to throw a four-hitter and Evan Waldhoff drove in three runs, helping the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes post an 8-1 win at Salem in the opening game of a doubleheader Saturday.
The host Wildcats gained a split by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh for a 1-0 victory in the nightcap.
Borries went the first six innings, allowing four hits and a single run, while walking three and striking out eight. Hoene pitched a scoreless seventh.
The Shoes broke on top in the second. Borries reached on an error, Mitch Koester singled and Conner Hoelscher walked to load the bases. Waldhoff had a sacrifice fly to bring in the first run and the second scored on a ground out by Garret Gaddis.
The Shoes added a run in the third, got a two-run double from Brett Kreke in a three-run fourth and scored two more in the fifth on a two-run double by Waldhoff.
In the second game, Gaddis and Colton Shelton were locked in a pitcher’s duel. Gaddis went the first six innings, giving up just four hits and a walk, while striking out nine. Waldhoff relieved in the seventh and took the loss.
In the seventh, Keaton Gullion led off with a double for Salem. He went to third on a bunt and scored on a ground ball by Brayden Rector.
Shelton finished with a one-hit shutout. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out two. The only hit was a lead-off single in the seventh by Henry Thompson.
The Shoes, now 9-5, will play Tuesday at Robinson.

Production from the bottom portion of a lineup is always a welcome sight.
The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes have reaped the benefit of that now for two games in a row.
On Saturday afternoon, the No. 6-7-8-9 hitters – Conner Hoelscher, Jason Kreke, Joey Niebrugge and Zac Niebrugge -- combined for seven hits and four RBI in the Shoes 15-8 win at St. Joe-Ogden.
They were at again Monday.
This time, it was Evan Waldhoff, Garrett Gaddis, Joey Niebrugge and Brett Kreke. That foursome collected six hits and drove in seven runs, helping T-Town post a convincing 12-1 win over Effingham at Evergreen Holler Park.
“We started getting that production in the second game Saturday,” THS coach Justin Fleener said. “We’re still a work in progress, but I like the way we’re looking right now. Things are coming along.”
Kreke got a key two-out, two-run single in the second inning that put the Shoes on top to stay. Joey Niebrugge collected a pair of hits and drove in two runs, Gaddis chipped in with an RBI double, plus he walked with the bases loaded, and Waldhoff added a run-scoring double.
All of that production was way more offense than the Hearts could match.
Logan Lawson pitched a complete game and the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes received 13 walks, leading to a 9-2 win at home Friday afternoon over Flora.
Lawson allowed just three hits in his seven-inning, 91-pitch performance. He walked two and struck out five.
The Shoes never trailed after scoring three first-inning runs without benefit of a hit. There were three walks and two Flora errors in the frame.
The hosts took total control in the third. After two outs, Devin Kreke walked, Garrett Gaddis lined a double and Zac Niebrugge walked to load the bases. Brett Kreke followed with a double that drove home two and Mitch Koester capped the four-run inning with a two-run single to increase the T-Town lead to 7-0.
Teutopolis wrapped up its scoring with two runs in the fifth.
The Shoes, who improved to 8-4, were scheduled to be back in action today (Saturday) with a game at Salem.
Things seem much more back to normal now.
The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are headed to the baseball sectional.
After winning 13 straight regional titles, the Shoes had that string snapped last year by Salem.
But T-Town made it 14-out-of-15, using a three-run inning and a strong pitching performance Saturday to post a 4-1 win over Salem in the championship game of the Greenville Class 2A Regional.
The Shoes now advance to the Breese (Central) Sectional.
Teutopolis, who beat Salem 10-2 earlier in the season, trailed the Wildcats 1-0 after allowing an unearned run to score in the bottom of the second inning.
But the Shoes knotted the score in the third. Caleb Siemer singled, went to second on an error and scored when Logan Roepke delivered an RBI single.
THS then took the lead with a three-run fourth. With one out, Connor Siemer, Garrett Gaddis and Caleb Bloemer each singled to load the bases. Caleb Siemer drove in one run with a sacrifice fly, Joey Niebrugge added a run-scoring single and Bloemer scored on an error.
That was more than enough run support for Logan Lawson. He pitched all seven innings, allowing just five hits and the one unearned tally. He walked only one batter and struck out six during his 94-pitch performance.
The Shoes, now 17-15 on the season, will face Father McGivney at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Father McGivney won the Roxanna Regional
Newton and Columbia, both winners of their own regionals, will square off at 3 p.m. Thursday.
The sectional championship is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27.
