Mattoon won eight of the nine divisions to capture first place in the Apollo Conference Girls Tennis Tournament, played Friday and Saturday in Charleston.

The Lady Hearts were runner-up in seven of those matches to finish second overall in the conference tourney.

The Lady Green Wave accumulated 61 total points, followed by EHS with 40. Finishing third through sixth were Charleston with 34, Mahomet-Seymour 27, Mt. Zion 24 and Lincoln 12.

“We felt some pressure in defending our title from last year,” said EHS coach Erik Williamson. “Our team had some experienced members and some girls experiencing the tournament for the first time. They all left excited for their future opportunities and also what the remaining two weeks will have in store.”
