St. Anthony used a big first half in the freshman game and a big second half in the sophomore game to post a pair of victories at home Thursday night against Sullivan.

In the freshman contest, the Bulldogs led 17-5 after eight minutes and 36-9 at halftime, en route to a 60-33 win. Jonathon Willenborg pumped in 25 points and Max Sager added 18 for SAHS.

St. Anthony had a 28-17 lead at intermission in the sophomore game, but then outscored Sullivan 29-14 in the second half to pull away for a 57-31 decision. Brody Niebrugge scored 14 points in the second quarter, 10 more in the third period and finished with 28. Kyle Stewart added 18.

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs will compete again in the 41st annual Mattoon Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Eight teams are entered in this year’s event, which will be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 26-28.

Mattoon, St. Teresa, Vandalia and Mahomet-Seymour will compete in Pool A, while St. Anthony, Altamont, Galesburg and Olney will be in Pool B.

The Altamont Lady Indians built an early lead Monday night and rolled to a 73-42 victory at St. Anthony.

Altamont led 21-9 after eight minutes and increased it to 44-19 at halftime.

Allyson Hardiek pumped in 29 points and Brooke Runge added 17 to lead the Lady Indians scoring attack. Rachel Jackman also reached double figures with 12.

Riley Guy scored 16 points and Lucy Fearday added 15 for the Lady Bulldogs.

St. Anthony, now 5-4 on the season, will play at Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday night.

The St. Anthony Bulldogs were expected to dominate Tuesday night and they did exactly that.

The Bulldogs exploded to a 31-9 lead after just eight minutes and rolled to a 96-37 win at home over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

The lead was 48-20 at halftime and 81-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

St. Anthony had 12 players score in the game and placed four of them in double figures. Logan Antrim and Jaccob Dust both scored 17 points, while Aaron Webb added 12 and Kennan Walsh had 10.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in the National Trail Conference. They will play at St. Elmo/Brownstown Friday night.

St. Anthony also won the junior varsity game, 61-17. Kennan Walsh scored 16 points and Ty Wiedman had 10.

The St. Anthony Bulldogs scored the first 11 points of the game Friday night and were never threatened.

St. Anthony built a 20-7 lead after eight minutes and rolled to a 69-35 win at home on Homecoming.

After a sub-par performance Tuesday night, the Bulldogs bounced back in impressive fashion. By halftime, they owned a 39-15 advantage and increased the margin to 55-23 heading into the final quarter.

St. Anthony torched the nets on offense, making 61 percent of their shots. They were 28-of-46 overall, including 6-of-11 from three-point range. They were also 7-of-11 from the foul line, pulled down 30 rebounds and turned the ball over 10 times.

Jaccob Dust turned in a double-double performance with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jack Hoene and Logan Antrim also reached double figures with 16 and 14 points respectively.

The Bulldogs remained undefeated on the young season, improving to 6-0. They will face two National Trail Conference opponents this week. They will host Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday and then travel to Brownstown/St. Elmo Friday night.

St. Anthony also won the junior varsity contest, 59-21. Seth Hotze scored 12 points, while Grant Nuxoll and Eli Moore both had 10.
