It looked like two teams playing a fourth game in three days – and playing early in the morning.
But like St. Anthony coach Cody Rincker said, “we made enough plays to win.”
A pair of 3-pointers to open the fourth quarter and then a three-point play late proved to be enough, as the Bulldogs posted a 36-33 victory over Antioch in a game that started at 10 a.m.
The win gave St. Anthony a 2-2 overall record in the 7th annual Effingham-Teutopolis Christmas Classic and an 11th place finish in the 16-team field.
“Overall, play was a little sluggish,” Rincker admitted. “But we made a couple plays and were disciplined enough to come away with a win.”
Heading into the final eight minutes, St. Anthony owned a slim 24-23 edge. Aaron Webb opened the fourth quarter by connecting on a shot from behind the arc. Logan Antrim then converted a Sequoit turnover into another 3-pointer that expanded the lead to 30-23.
The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs dropped to 0-4 after losing two games Friday at the Mattoon Girls Holiday Tournament.
They were defeated 57-21 by Galesburg in the morning and then lost to St. Teresa 67-37 Friday afternoon.
St. Anthony will complete tournament play at noon Saturday.
In the first game Friday, Galesburg led 14-7 after the opening eight minutes and expanded that lead to 36-10 at halftime and 49-19 after three quarters.
Lucy Fearday led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points.
St. Teresa led 26-17 at intermission, but then outscored St. Anthony 41-20 in the second half.
Fearday had a very good game, pumping in 22 points.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 6-10 on the season.

Jumping out to an early, sizeable lead has proven to be a successful formula for the St. Anthony Bulldogs so far this season.
Through the first nine games, St. Anthony has trailed just once and been tied one other time at the end of the opening period. In the other seven contests, SAHS has held a lead, and in six of those, by double digits, averaging an 11-point cushion after eight minutes of play.
The Bulldogs were back at it again Monday night. They used an 18-4 first-quarter run to open another early double-digit lead and rolled to their 10th straight win, a 65-39 decision at home over Olney.
“We’ve done a good job getting off to quick starts and putting teams back on their heels,” St. Anthony coach Cody Rincker said. “That helps us handle the ups and downs of a game. Getting off to that fast start was a factor again tonight.”
It was a 3-2 St. Anthony lead after the first minute. But four minutes later, the Bulldogs had the game well in hand.
Anna Blank pumped in 25 points Thursday morning, leading the Olney Lady Tigers to a 62-31 victory over St. Anthony in an opening-round game of the Mattoon Girls Holiday Tournament.
Blank had 17 points in the first half, as Olney built a 36-18 advantage. It was 54-24 margin heading into the final eight minutes.
Lucy Fearday scored 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs and Riley Guy added 11, all in the first half.
In the last game of the day, the Altamont Lady Indians posted a 61-46 decision over St. Anthony.
Altamont also built a 36-18 lead at halftime. Rachel Jackman scored 19 points for the Lady Indians, while Guy and Fearday led St. Anthony with 16 and 11 points respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs, now 6-8 on the season, will play Galesburg at 10 a.m. today (Friday).
Riley Guy pumped in 25 points and helped the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs post a 46-43 win Saturday at Arthur.
Guy netted 11 of those in the opening period, helping SAHS build an early 14-9 lead. The Lady Bulldogs were on top 26-18 at intermission, but were then outscored 16-6 in the third quarter to fall behind 34-32. Izzy Hakman hit a 3-pointer and added three free throws in the final eight minutes, helping St. Anthony rally for the win.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-6 on the season. They will open play in the Mattoon Girls Holiday Tournament on Thursday. St. Anthony will play two games – at 8:30 a.m. against Olney; and at 7:30 p.m. against Altamont.
