There is a rich history that surrounds the Cross Creek Rivalry.
Through the years, there have been countless games played and memories of many those have withstood the test of time.
There have been clashes in the regular season and in tournaments. There have been nail-biters, blowouts and upsets. And in a series like this, every single one of those is important.
It’s just possible that Saturday’s battle between St. Anthony and Teutopolis might be considered and remembered as one of the classics of this great rivalry.
The St. Anthony Bulldogs trailed by 17 points in the second period and were still down 14 two minutes into the second half.
And then the comeback began. The Bulldogs went on a 16-0 scoring run and the game was on.
St. Anthony ultimately withstood two game-winning shots by the Wooden Shoes at the end of regulation and then took control in overtime to emerge with a 56-50 victory in the championship game of the St. Anthony Thanksgiving Tournament.

For the second straight game, St. Anthony’s speed and pressure were simply too much for its opponent.
The Bulldogs built an insurmountable lead early, forced 33 turnovers and shot 56 percent, en route to a lopsided 68-25 victory Wednesday night over Highland.
It was the third and final game of the day at the St. Anthony Thanksgiving Tournament and set up a Friday night showdown with cross-town rival Effingham. The winner of that rivalry contest will play for the tourney championship Saturday night against either Teutopolis or Mattoon.
“I felt like we played a full 32 minutes tonight,” said St. Anthony coach Cody Rincker. “They paid attention to details, especially on defense, and it showed.”
Yes, it showed – both early and often.
The Bulldogs forced 12 first-quarter turnovers and converted after six of them. Jack Hoene and Logan Antrim both scored five early points and after Eli Moore converted one of those turnovers into a basket, St. Anthony had an 18-0 lead and never looked back.
