After having their 10-game winning streak snapped Friday at Altamont, the St. Anthony Bulldogs got back on track with an 8-2 win Saturday at Marshall.
The Bulldogs grabbed the lead with a four-run third and were never threatened. They also scored a pair of runs in the fourth and added single tallies in the sixth and seventh.
In the third, Connor Roepke made it to second base on an error. He then came in to score when Brock Jansen’s bunt was thrown away. Eli Levitt then doubled and Beau Adams delivered an RBI single. The final two runs scored on another throwing error.
Levitt added a two-run double in the fourth and Roepke ripped a solo homer in the sixth. The final run came in on an RBI double by Angelo Mendella in the seventh.
Brock Jansen worked the first four innings to get the win. He gave up just one hit and one run, while walking three and striking out six. Josh Blanchette pitched the final three innings.
The Bulldogs are now 12-3 on the season. They will return to action Monday with a game at Dieterich.
The St. Anthony Bulldogs had their 10-game winning streak come to a halt Friday, dropping a 6-3 decision at Altamont.
The St. Anthony defense – or lack thereof – played a big role in that. The Bulldogs committed seven errors, resulting in five unearned runs.
The Indians broke on top with a four-run fourth. Jared Hammer led the inning off with a single and Mason Robinson reached on an error. With one out, Kienon Eirhart delivered an RBI single. After Kaidyn Miller singled to load the bases, a pair of St. Anthony errors allowed three more runs to score.
St. Anthony got on the board in the top of the fifth with two walks and a sacrifice fly by Will Hoene.
Altamont came right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Hammer again led off with a base hit and Robinson again reached on an error. Eirhart drove in one with a single and the second run scored on another error.
The Bulldogs got their final two tallies in the seventh. Eli Levitt singled, Beau Adams walked and Colton Fearday singled to load the bases. Hoene had another sacrifice fly and Angelo Mendella drove in the final run with a ground ball.
Dillian Elam pitched the first 4.1 innings to get the win for the Indians. Hammer and Mason Winn pitched the final 2.2 innings.
Brody Niebrugge took the loss for St. Anthony. He went four innings, allowing five hits and five runs, although only one was earned. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out three. Levitt pitched the final two innings.
The Bulldogs are now 11-3 on the season. They will return to action today (Saturday) at Marshall and will play Monday at Dieterich.
St. Anthony’s winning streak is now at nine after Wednesday’s 11-4 win at home over Charleston.
The Bulldogs fell behind 3-2 early, but then scored the final nine runs of the game to get the victory. The Bulldogs banged out 13 hits.
St. Anthony took the lead for good in the third. With two outs, Will Hoene walked and Angelo Mendella was hit by a pitch. Eli Link then delivered a two-run double to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead.
They scored three runs in the fifth. Connor Roepke and Eli Levitt both had RBI singles in that inning. The Bulldogs then wrapped up the scoring with a four-run sixth. Levitt, who had three hits in the game, had an RBI double, while Brady Hatton and Brody Niebrugge both came through with run-scoring singles.
Colton Fearday pitched the first five innings to get the win. He allowed four hits and three runs, while walking four and striking out seven. Brock Fearday relieved in the sixth and pitched the final two innings.
The Bulldogs are now 10-2 on the season. They will return to action today (Wednesday) with a home game against Salem and will then travel to Altamont on Friday.
Angelo Mendella blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the St. Anthony Bulldogs to a 4-1 win over Salem Thursday and extend their winning streak to 10 straight games.
Salem’s Griffin Day took a three-hit shutout into that sixth inning. Connor Roepke walked and Beau Adams singled to get the rally started. A fielder’s choice, plus an error, accounted for the first run. After Will Hoene walked, Mendella then belted a 1-2 pitch over the leftfield fence to put the Bulldogs on top.
Max Koenig pitched the final two innings to get the win. He didn’t allow a hit, walked one and struck out two. Brady Hatton pitched a strong five innings, allowing only three hits and one run in the second inning. He walked four and struck out four.
The Bulldogs are now 11-2 on the season. They will return to action today (Friday) at Altamont.
The St. Anthony jumped out to a quick lead and Colton Fearday pitched six strong innings to make it stand up, as the Bulldogs posted a 7-3 win Monday afternoon over Teutopolis at Paul Smith Field in Effingham.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first and added two more tallies in the second. Meanwhile, Fearday scattered eight hits and allowed only single tallies in the third, fourth and fifth, helping SAHS notch its ninth win of the spring season.
The Bulldogs set the tone early. Eli Levitt led off with a base hit. With one out, Colton Fearday singled and both runners moved up on a passed ball. Will Hoene then grounded a base hit up the middle, driving in two, and Angelo Mendella drilled a two-run homer over the rightfield fence to stake St. Anthony to a 4-0 lead.
The hosts made it 6-0 in the second. Brady Hatton was hit by a pitch and Levitt walked. An error let one run score and Colton Fearday added an RBI single.
The Shoes chipped away at the lead beginning in the third. Sam Bushur, who had three hits in the game, belted a solo homer over the leftfield fence. THS got another run in the fourth. Mitch Althoff singled, went to second on an error and scored on a base hit by Evan Waldhoff.
St. Anthony got its final run in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Levitt and Beau Adams. The Shoes got their third run in the fifth when Logan Roepke walked and later scored on an RBI single by Mitch Althoff.
Fearday walked just one and struck out nine in six innings of work. Eli Link gave up a hit, but struck out two in the seventh. Derek Konkel took the loss for T-Town. He went five innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits. He walked two and struck out four. Caleb Siemer pitched one inning.
The Shoes dipped to 6-5 on the season. They are scheduled to play today (Tuesday) at Robinson.
The Bulldogs improved to 9-2. They will play at home Wednesday against Salt Fork.
