The St. Anthony jumped out to a quick lead and Colton Fearday pitched six strong innings to make it stand up, as the Bulldogs posted a 7-3 win Monday afternoon over Teutopolis at Paul Smith Field in Effingham.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first and added two more tallies in the second. Meanwhile, Fearday scattered eight hits and allowed only single tallies in the third, fourth and fifth, helping SAHS notch its ninth win of the spring season.

The Bulldogs set the tone early. Eli Levitt led off with a base hit. With one out, Colton Fearday singled and both runners moved up on a passed ball. Will Hoene then grounded a base hit up the middle, driving in two, and Angelo Mendella drilled a two-run homer over the rightfield fence to stake St. Anthony to a 4-0 lead.

The hosts made it 6-0 in the second. Brady Hatton was hit by a pitch and Levitt walked. An error let one run score and Colton Fearday added an RBI single.

The Shoes chipped away at the lead beginning in the third. Sam Bushur, who had three hits in the game, belted a solo homer over the leftfield fence. THS got another run in the fourth. Mitch Althoff singled, went to second on an error and scored on a base hit by Evan Waldhoff.

St. Anthony got its final run in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Levitt and Beau Adams. The Shoes got their third run in the fifth when Logan Roepke walked and later scored on an RBI single by Mitch Althoff.

Fearday walked just one and struck out nine in six innings of work. Eli Link gave up a hit, but struck out two in the seventh. Derek Konkel took the loss for T-Town. He went five innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits. He walked two and struck out four. Caleb Siemer pitched one inning.

The Shoes dipped to 6-5 on the season. They are scheduled to play today (Tuesday) at Robinson.

The Bulldogs improved to 9-2. They will play at home Wednesday against Salt Fork.

The St. Anthony Bulldogs had their hitting shoes on Saturday.

They reached double figures in hits and runs in both games and came away with a pair of wins in the Tuscola Invitational and extend their winning streak to seven.

The Bulldogs beat the Eastland Cougars 11-1 in their first game and came back with an 18-5 rout over Tuscola in their second game.

Will Hoene blasted a home run and drove in four runs and Brady Hatton belted a solo home run against Eastland.

The Bulldogs jumped on top with a three-run first. Hoene had a sacrifice fly and Connor Roepke added a two-run single in a three-run third and SAHS wrapped it up with a five-run fourth. Hatton homered to start the fourth and Hoene capped the inning with a three-run blast.

Hatton was also the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and a single run in five innings of work. He walked two and struck out 11.

The game against Tuscola was even more lopsided. The Bulldogs took control with a five-run second, followed by a trio of three-run frames in the third, fourth and fifth, and then completed the scoring with a four-run sixth.

Brock Jansen, Brock Fearday and Colton Fearday combined for eight hits and 10 RBI in the game.

Colton Fearday had a two-run single in the second and another RBI hit in the third. Brock Fearday got his three runs batted in with a home run in the fifth and Jansen had a two-run double in the fourth and a two-run single in the sixth.

Brock Fearday was the winning pitcher. He worked five innings, giving up five hits and five runs, while walking three and striking out seven.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 8-2, is scheduled to be back in action today (Monday) at home against Teutopolis.

For the second straight game, the St. Anthony Bulldogs rode a 10-hit attack to victory, posting a 10-7 win at home over Mattoon Tuesday afternoon.

The hosts jumped to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Brody Niebrugge started things with a lead-off single. Angelo Mendella reached on an error and the hot-hitting Will Hoene followed with an RBI single to put the Bulldogs on top. Also for the second straight game, Hoene collected three hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Eli Link and Beau Adams also had run-scoring singles in the second and Brady Hatton added a two-run double to make it 5-0.

SAHS added two runs in the fourth and fifth and a single tally in the sixth. The Green Wave made it close with a four-run seventh, capped by a three-run homer from Kaden Jung.

Niebrugge was the starter and went the first four innings to get the win. He gave up four hits and one run, while walking three and striking out four. Brock Jansen, Brock Fearday and Josh Blanchette also pitched.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 5-2, are scheduled to play at home today (Wednesday) against South Central and Thursday at Mt. Zion.

The St. Anthony Bulldogs rallied for six runs in the seventh inning Thursday to come from behind and post a 12-8 victory at Mt. Zion.

The host Braves had come from behind earlier in the game. They trailed 6-2 at one time, but scored two runs in the fourth, three more in the fifth and added a single tally in the sixth to take an 8-6 advantage into the final inning.

But Eli Link led off the seventh with a base hit and Connor Roepke was hit by a pitch to get the comeback started. Both runners moved up a base on a ground out and Eli Levitt followed with his third hit of the game, a game-tying, two-run single.

But the Bulldogs were just getting started. Beau Adams then walked and Colton Fearday put SAHS on top with an RBI single. Brock Fearday, Angelo Mendella and Link added run-scoring singles to complete the six-run uprising.

Brock Fearday then set Mt. Zion down in order in the bottom of the seventh, recording two strikeouts, to nail down the victory. Fearday, the third pitcher of the game for the Bulldogs, also got the final two outs in the sixth and got credit for the win. Levitt was the starter and went the first four innings and Brady Hatton went 1.1 innings.

The Bulldogs scored single tallies in each of the first three innings and then tacked on three more runs in the fourth to build the 6-2 lead. Levitt and Mendella both collected three hits and drove in three runs for St. Anthony.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 6-2, will host a triple-header on Saturday. Tuscola will play Lanark-Eastland at noon; St. Anthony will face Lanark-Eastland at 2:30; and the Bulldogs will then play Tuscola at 5 p.m.

Colton Fearday pitched six strong innings and Will Hoene had three hits and drove in two runs, helping the St. Anthony Bulldogs post a 6-2 win at home Monday afternoon over Mahomet-Seymour.

Fearday allowed just five hits in his 110-pitch outing. The only runs he gave up came on a two-run homer by Mahomet-Seymour’s Carter Selk in the fourth inning that tied the game at 2-2. Fearday walked two and struck out seven. Eli Levitt pitched the seventh and recorded three strikeouts.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Levitt led off with a double, went to second on a ground out and scored on Fearday’s sacrifice fly. Then with two outs, Brody Niebrugge singled, Angelo Mendella walked and Hoene delivered an RBI single.

SAHS then put together another two-out rally in the fifth. Niebrugge walked, went to second on a passed ball and scored on an error. Hoene then came through with a run-scoring double, followed by RBI singles from Eli Link and Connor Roepke.

The Bulldogs collected 10 hits in the game.

St. Anthony, now 4-2, is scheduled to play today (Tuesday) at Mattoon and then return home to play South Central on Wednesday.
