The Teutopolis Lady Shoes exploded in the middle two quarters Thursday night, pulling away for a 68-25 decision at Flora.

The Lady Shoes led by a slim 16-14 margin after the first quarter, mainly due to Chloe Probst, who knocked down two three-pointers and scored 10 points.

But the next 16 minutes were different. T-Town outscored the Lady Wolves 44-10 over that span to break the game open.

Probst had a sensational offensive game. She also scored 11 points in the third period and finished with a game-high 30. She made 11-of-21 shots overall, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Mollie Ruholl also connected on a couple shots from long range and scored 12.

The Lady Shoes improved to 16-4 on the season. They will play Saturday at the Highland Tournament. They are scheduled to face Troy Triad at 5:30 p.m.

Matchups.

Oftentimes, those are the determining factors in a basketball game.

Height, experience, pace of game and type of offense or defense the opponent runs can have a huge impact on the outcome.

In Monday night’s game at Teutopolis, it was quickness.

One team – Bethalto Civic Memorial – had much more of it.

And used it to their advantage at both ends of the floor.

That quickness and the Lady Eagles shooting from long range, especially in the first half, were the clear difference.

A 16-0 scoring run also helped, as Civic Memorial erased an early deficit, opened a double-digit lead and rolled to a 58-41 victory at J.H. Griffin Gymnasium.

“Their quickness was our biggest challenge,” THS coach Laurie Thompson said. “That’s the quickest team we’ve played this year. They were quicker at every position. It’s hard to overcome that.”

St. Joe-Ogden controlled the first half, building a double-digit lead, en route to a 55-40 victory at home Tuesday night over Teutopolis.

The Spartans jumped out to a 21-12 lead after the opening eight minutes and then expanded the margin to 17 points, taking a 37-20 advantage to the locker room at halftime.

Tanner Siems scored a game-high 21 points for the Spartans, who improved to 10-5 on the season.

Gavin Addis was the only Wooden Shoe to reach double figures, finishing with 11 points. Alex Kremer added nine.

The Shoes dropped to 11-5. They will face another tough test Friday when they travel to Tuscola.

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes went on a 21-5 second-quarter run Saturday afternoon to pull away and post a 58-34 victory over New Berlin in the Taylorville Shootout.

The Shoes held a slim 12-10 lead after the opening quarter, but then used the big second period to build a 33-15 halftime advantage. T-Town continued to widen the gap in the third quarter, taking a 46-23 lead into the final eight minutes.

Drew Hoene and Mick Niebrugge accounted for a bulk of the team’s scoring, combining for 40 points. Hoene led the way with 23, while Niebrugge added 17.

Hoene was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the game.

The Shoes improved to 11-4 on the season. They will travel to St. Joe-Ogden for a game on Tuesday.
