ET Sports Report

When a team scores in every inning, its chances of winning are generally pretty high.

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes did that Monday afternoon and came away with a 16-6, five-inning win at Effingham.

T-Town started the game with a pair of four-run frames and then added two runs in the third, five more in the fourth and a final tally in the fifth to build a 15-run lead.

“Getting on the board early just helped us settle down,” THS coach Crystal Tipton said. “The girls get pretty excited when they play Effingham.”

Yes, the Lady Shoes were on the board early. The second batter of the game, Emily Konkel, drove a 3-2 pitch over the centerfield fence to put the guests on top 1-0.

But they were just getting started.

With two outs, Kaylee Niebrugge hit a dribbler up the third base line that she beat out for an infield single. Courtney Gibson then drove the first pitch she saw into the right-centerfield gap and Niebrugge raced around the bases to score.

Danielle Sarchet and Estella Mette both walked to load the bases. Summer Wall was hit by a pitch to force in the third run and Olivia Copple grounded a single between third and shortstop to drive home the final run of the inning.

THS was right back at it in the second. With one out, Daisha Piedra walked and went to third on a double by Niebrugge. After Gibson walked to load the bases, Sarchet lined a pitch off the pitcher’s glove that still made it to the outfield and drove in a pair. Ground balls by Mette and Wall accounted for the final two runs to increase the lead to 8-0.

Niebrugge had a sacrifice fly and Gibson delivered her second RBI double to expand the gap to 10-0 in the third.
